The reason I find myself at this point is as follows........My wife and I moved from London to Austria almost two years ago. Lockdown had begun, everything was new, and I felt like the last 8 years had yielded nothing in terms of friendships, contacts, work done and future prospects. As the weeks and months progressed, very little was happening to change my mind, the lockdown mentality was well and truly bedded-in and the news from abroad was not helping that either.
I was put in contact with Janna, our co-lead, early on, and she seems to be the one going against all this, the agitator who is always restless, never-settling, always wanting to create, and this has proven to be a good motivator. Janna has lived in Salzburg for about 8 years and has engaged with the mainly English-speaking, artistically minded contingent, encouraging them to create, and talk, and meet, and just "do". This has been invaluable. We collaborated on a short piece called "Take Me To The Trees", a poem by Josette Eales that we turned into a short film/spoken-word video, and I would say that this planted a seed, this is probably where "Pencil" began, even if I didn't realise it myself at the time.
